Teacher Education

The Department of Modern Languages is partnering with the ARC program at Schoolcraft College to offer Oakland University students the opportunity to become certified teachers while already working as a teacher.

Students in this program need to complete all the requirements of a B.A. of the language they want to become certified in before entering the ARC program. Once in the ARC program, they receive an Interim Teaching Certificate (ITC) that allows the ARC candidate to gain employment as a full-time teacher in the area(s) of certification while receiving exceptional support through peer mentoring, instructional coaching, and additional coursework for three years. Successful completion of all Program requirements and three years of effective teaching earns the ARC candidate a standard teaching certificate. This is the equivalent of completing a traditional pathway to teaching.
